Govt Works On Aarogya Setu Wristband

COVID-19 pandemic is showing no signs of slowing down its spread all across the globe. Aarogya Setu app has been made available in the country to connect essential health services with the people. The app offers instructions to help self isolate and provide support if you develop symptoms. Soon after the launch of Aarogya Setu app where people can self-assess and track Covid-19 infections effectively, the government of India is now planning to procure wristbands that will be integrated with the app.

Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting described the band as “Intelligence investigation platform & tactical tool to detect, prevent and investigate threats to national security using CDR, IPDR, Tower, Mobile Phone Forensics Data.” BECIL will work for the design of these wristbands and they are expected to cost approximately ₹2,200/- a piece; but may get cheaper when demand rises.

The band will help medical personnel and authorities to keep track of movement of patients in hospitals and those under self-quarantine. This will also help frontline workers to take proper safety measures. The purpose of this band is to pair it with Aarogya Setu app and get information about patients and people under quarantine including their location data and people they are in contact with.

With integration of Aarogya Setu app with band, it will offer different insights into person’s location, health and other useful details helping the health officials. The aim is to develop a one-stop solution that incorporates with healthcare facilities, medical staff and remote healthcare support. This will provide many more parameters that will be available for health officials’ supervision.
