Fitbit has introduced a new tab for COVID-19 where users can get all the information about coronavirus and get various activities to stay fit. This special tab has been introduced to educate people. It also offers motivational reminders to move regularly; do stretching and make time for mindfulness. All this is often forgotten in this stressful time.
Fitbit app offers a new suite of tools to help manage stress during this pandemic. It offers regular hand-washing reminders watch face, helping you develop new hygiene habits. There’s an option to contact a doctor online if you are not feeling well. Currently, this feature is restricted to users in US only.
This new tab currently supports in US, UK, Canada, India and Australia and other European countries. In case, you are not seeing it; then wait for a while as it is rolling slowly.
Fitbit is a brand that requires no introduction. The company has earned a niche reputation in the industry for providing some of the best fitness trackers that are aimed at helping people live a more active and healthy life. Fitbit Versa series has recently made debut in the country and expanded its series by launch of Fitbit Versa 2. The smartwatch is available in two variants – Fitbit Versa 2 and Special Edition. The Versa 2 priced at ₹20,999/- and comes in Black/Carbon Aluminium, Stone/Mist Grey Aluminium, Emerald/Copper Rose Aluminium, Petal/Copper Rose Aluminium and Bordeaux/Copper Rose Aluminium color variants. The Special Edition is priced at ₹22,999/- and comes in Smoke Woven/Mist Grey Aluminium and Navy Pink/Copper Rose Aluminium color variants. You can purchase it online via Amazon or Flipkart.
We are today reviewing Fitbit Versa 2 smartwatch in stone/mist grey aluminum which we have been using regularly from last three months. The company has made several changes to its original Versa and is about the same amount.
Design: Comfortable
Talking about the design, Fitbit Versa 2 resembles the Apple Watch despite dissimilarities in the watch. It shares a square design with a single button the left side of dial. We use this button to navigate the screen and it also activates Amazon’s Alexa. At the back of the design, there are a bunch of sensors. There’s a charging port to connect with Fitbit’s proprietary charger to speed up the process. The best part of the fitness tracker is that you can wear it with any outfit or at any occasion including family parties, office events etc. Though Fitbit Versa 2 smartwatch comes with soft silicone straps, but you can also purchase some very cool and fancy ones. We have also tried some straps to customize the look and here are some of the clicks:
Display: Intuitive
In terms of display, Fitbit Versa 2 comes with OLED display which is bright and beautiful. We tested the display in bright indoor light, under the sun as well as in night-light; the watch provided a crystal-clear display even in dim brightness; that is readable all the time. The attractive feature of Versa 2 is the Always-on display. This ensures that you don’t have to tap on the screen or press the side button every time to check the time. With recent update, you can also customize the watch faces according to your choice. When you sleep, Versa 2 automatically switches to sleep mode to ensure no disturbances.
Fitness and Health smarts: Still missing GPS
Fitbit Versa 2 offers the best combination of great style and accurate tracking. With this smartwatch, we were able to track all health-related data effortlessly. Starting from the basics, you can track various exercises, laps while swimming, heart rate tracking, setting timers, check weather, get guided breathing lessons and many more. The wearable has more than 15 exercise modes. Commendable!
To keep check on your health, you just need to select the exercise app on the watch and the type of activity you are indulging in. Thanks to the SmartTrack technology, the wearable is smart enough to log any activities that are 10 minutes or longer (you can also customize it as per your need). Sleep tracking is also done automatically. Sleep Score takes into consideration how long you are awake, your light and deep sleep durations, REM sleep and more. The recent December 2019 update brought a new feature called Smart Wake. This feature sets off the silent vibrations at the most optimal time in your sleep cycle within 30-minute duration prior to chosen alarm.
Fitbit says that OS update will bring the feature of measuring blood oxygen levels in the smartwatch. The company is testing this feature to keep tab on variations in breathing patterns. It has the new Spotify app on board which also lets you enjoy music streaming service by directly accessing their accounts. The lack of GPS chip is a big miss. Every time you go for a walk, run or bike run; you need to take your phone with you for location information.
Extra Skills: Alexa
The most hyped feature of Fitbit Versa 2 smartwatch is the support for Amazon Alexa. Using Alexa, you can do almost anything. Unlike Echo smart speaker, it does not listen to all your conversations. You can activate it by long pressing button to left side. Her responses come in the form of texts. We used Alexa to find weather, set reminders, and start an exercise and more. However, you cannot make call or respond to messages. During our testing, we found Alexa took a few tries to respond, with screen telling us “thinking.” Though Alexa support is a good addition but functionality is limited.
Female Health Tracking
Female can use Fitbit Versa 2 to track their cycle, log their periods, and analyze trends and record useful details. Fitbit offers the easiest way to track symptoms and menstrual cycle data to let female make more informed discussions with their doctor. By having such readily information, female get better understanding of how their cycle changes and its impact on female overall health.
Watch Storage
Versa 2 comes with about 2.5 GB of free storage for music. This also implies that you can conveniently store over 300 of your favorite tracks right on your wrist. You can also load up your own local files or download playlists as well. Your smartwatch is smart enough to save seven days of motion data and daily totals for past 30 days.
Battery: On and On and On….
In our experience, Fitbit Versa 2 provides battery life of about five days depending on the usage. When we used always-on display with normal usage, it lasted for a little over two days, which is in our opinion is great for a smartwatch. Let’s now talk about the charging of battery. It takes about one and a half hour to completely charge it. The first 20 minutes of charging offers about 30% of battery when the battery has been drained out fully. The smart watch sends you regular notifications when battery is running low.
Third-party Apps
The support for over 100 third-party apps is a great plus. Spotify integration is the new addition but you must have premium subscription. Also, it does not allow playback from smart watch. Apps like Uber, Philips Hue and Starbucks Card are available on the smartwatch. You can also respond to text messages via preset replies/emoji or your voice. Fitbit Versa 2 smartwatch also includes those apps that bring out its value. For example, the Exercise app with its multisport modes, automatic sports tracking. Fitbit meditation app called Relax guides you via short breathing sessions. You can also make contactless payments thanks to Fitbit Pay. This onboard wallet app offers you access to credit card preferences. Also, it includes basic settings app, timers, alarms and more.
The Fitbit App
Fitbit has recently redesigned its app; sectioning it in three tabs- Today, Discover and Community. Today tab offers you details about daily steps, sleep, calories burnt and more. Discover tab is where you can add new fitness and health statistics, check out workout programs, enroll in challenges to compete with friends. Then, Community tab comes in; It is basically a mini social network where you can join groups based on your health interests. This community plays a good role in helping you staying motivated in your fitness journey. Fitbit Coach App is another exciting way to inspire people to live healthier lives.
